DJ Myers wins the 12th Annual “King of the
Knob” at Roaring Knob for UFo Race Championship!

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (September 12, 2009) - DJ Myers from Greencastle,
PA earned the crown and $6,000 first place prize by winning the
51-lap, 12th Annual King of the Knob event at the Roaring Knob
Motorsports Complex on Saturday night for the UFo Race
Championship Series. Ricky Meglaye collected his second Brooks
Auto Group FASTRAK Late Model main while Bob Nelson picked up his
fourth Dick Rugh’s Auto Parts Street Stock victory, and Shane
Wheeler Sr. was declared the winner of the Ft. Necessity Garage
Charger feature as the 2009 season came to a conclusion.
46 UFo Super Late Models were divided into six heat races, all
lined up by the luck of the draw. Rob Blair, Jared Miley, Gary
Dalton, Bob Hershman, DJ Myers and Jason Covert were the heat
winners, while Chuck Harper and Corey Conley took the B-main
checkers.
In the redraw for the top 12 starting positions, Jared Miley was
the second driver to draw, and pulled the second starting spot.
Jim Kutas was the seventh driver to draw, and drew the pole
position. At the drop of the green flag, third starting DJ Myers
shot into the lead. Miley settled into second but slowed on lap 6
to bring out the first caution. Myers had lane choice for the
double file restart, putting Covert to his outside. They raced
side by side with Covert eventually clearing Myers to lead until
the caution reappeared on lap 11. Covert took the outside lane and
Myers used the inside to regain the lead at 12 laps. Covert came
right back on the outside, regaining the lead on lap 14. Covert
led comfortably until Corey Conley slowed on lap 30 to bring out
the event’s third caution period.
With Covert’s lead gone, the next side-by-side restart saw Myers
regain the lead. This time Stile slipped past Covert, with Blair
and Hess behind. Covert regained second on lap 34, but Myers had a
half straight lead. The best battle on the track was for fourth,
with Blair high and Hess low. Their battle lasted nearly ten laps,
before Hess finally cleared Blair for fourth. Just when it
appeared that Myers had smooth sailing to the finish, it became a
brand new race when the yellow waved on lap 48 for a slowing Kutas.
When racing resumed, Myers pulled ahead, leading lap 49 over
Covert, Hess, Stile, and Blair. A multi-car tangle in turn four
brought out another caution, now setting up a two-lap run to the
finish. Myers was again up to the task, leading the way to the
checkered flag. Hess, at the white flag, completed his charge from
13th to finish a close second. Covert was third, Stile took fourth
after starting eleventh, with Blair fifth from eighth. Sixth was
Tyler Hershey, with Davey Johnson bringing his spec engine car
from 18th to seventh. UFo Series point leader Alex Ferree was
eighth, with Jared Miley finishing ninth after pitting on both
early cautions. Mike Johnson was tenth, after starting 21st.

Myers Collects $10,000 with Win at 34th Annual Yankee
Doodle! |
|

Clearfield, PA – (July 3, 2009) – Jason Shank – O’Reilly All
Star Late Model Series Director
It was
Greencastle, PA’s D.J. Myers taming the ultra fast Central
Pennsylvania Speedway as he survived a late race caution with
pressure from O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series regular
Robbie Blair to collect his first career ASLMS victory in the
34th Annual ‘Yankee Doodle 50’.
Thompson,
PA’s Dan Stone and Blair led the crop of 24 drivers to the
green with Blair blasting to the early lead but the lead was
short lived as former World of Outlaws Late Model Series
Champion Tim McCreadie, who also just returned from a broken
back suffered at January’s Chili Bowl, slide over the banking
in turns one and two to bring out the first caution of the
event. When action resumed, the ‘Titusville Terror’ continued
to lead while NASCAR Superstar Ken Schrader also went over the
banking in turns one and two but recovered to keep the event
green until Stone slowed with a flat tire on lap four.
The action
was fast and furious when racing resumed while ASLMS regular
and new CPS Track Record Holder Coleby Frye drifted over the
banking surrendering his top-five spot as D.J. Myers was
making his way through the field from his twelfth starting
position. After two quick cautions on laps seven and eight
for Ron Davies and Keith Barbara, who was also running in the
top-five, Myers continued his assault on ‘The Big Bear’.
After a
handful of cautions, mostly for flat tires, Myers made his way
around budding star Gregg Satterlee for second and set his
sights on race leader Blair. D.J. caught Robbie and made his
move on lap 19 to take the lead in his Gunter’s Honey, PPM
Chassis, Hershey Racing Engines sponsored mount. Myers
stretched his lead out ASLMS point leader Boom Briggs brought
out a caution for a flat tire on lap 31 tightening the field.
Briggs returned at the tail of the field while Myers continued
to lead.
Boom, racing
for points, had the hammer down and was back into the top-five
with a mere five laps remaining Myers looked to have the
event in the bag as the laps wound down but a caution for the
flat tire of Jeremy Miller on lap 49 set up a
green-white-checkered finish with Blair on the rear deck-lid
of Myers. D.J. was able to fend off Blair to garner his first
ASLMS feature win with Blair coming home second, Satterlee,
Briggs after a lap 31 flat tire came home fourth and Devin
Friese rounded out the top five. Scott Haus was sixth, Matt
Gaston seventh, eighth was Jeff Rine, Rod Conley came home
ninth with Jared Miley in a borrowed car from Benny Gordon was
tenth.
